Arizona State University to add Women’s Wrestling
Friday, August 17, 2007
Tempe, AZ

Arizona State University has added Women’s Wrestling as a club sport (pending student athletic approval) for the Fall 2007 semester.

The team will train year-round in Women’s Freestyle Wrestling and hopes to compete in all of the major USA Wrestling Sanctioned Tournaments including:
• USAW Jr. and Sr. Nationals and World Team Trials
• FILA Jr. Nationals and World Team Trials
• Sunkist Kids OPEN
• NYAC OPEN
• Dave Schlutz Open

The team Head Coach will be Tracy Greiff (former coach/mentor for Henry Cejudo in Arizona) and Aaron Simpson (1st Assistant coach for the ASU Men’s Team) will be the on-campus Advisor.

The Team Captain and club President will be Kelsie Campbell (Currently ranked 5th in the nation @59kg – USAW Senior Women).

“We will be building this program from the ground up” said Coach Tracy Greiff, “and we expect it will take time to build Champions, with that said, we expect this program to be a feeder program for the SunkistKids, for those who can earn a spot on the most prestigious club in the country (which is also headquartered in Tempe AZ), and to eventually produce US and World champions”.

Greiff Continued “This can only be accomplished with ELITE level Fundraising, Recruiting, and Coaching. I will be focusing on the fundraising and recruiting, and intend to bring in some of the best women’s technique coaches in the world”.

Greiff has spoken with many of the top ranked wrestlers and coaches in the country regarding assistance. He has also sought support from the ASU Olympic Sports Department, USA Wrestling, AZ-USA Wrestling, Sunkist Kids, as well as many other local organizations that have all expressed interest in the program succeeding.

Greiff can be reached at ASUWrestling@hotmail.com and encourages any 11th and 12th grade girls, ASU Students, and potential college transfers interested in competing for the program to contact as soon as possible.
